Primary School Gates
As we were not able to film at the prison, we decided to try filming outside school gates at the local primary school. This didn't look realistic enough and we decided to not go with this scene.
Peterborough Prison (HM Prison)
HM Prison is a category B prison for men and a closed prison for male and female young offenders. The prison is located near the town centre which is close by and easily accessable. The shots we needed were outside the prison gates, and the large sign outside the prison gates. However we came across a problem, we were advised that we needed to ask permission to film outside the prison gates so Adelle and myself took action and wrote a letter to the prison asking for permission to film outside the gates. We received a letter of opology informing us that we would be unable to film outside the prison for security reasons. Therefore in conclusion we did not film at the prison, instead we decided to film on a field behind the prison, this gave a clear view of the prison but not enough to establish the location entirely. On the day of filming the field we filmed on had been covered in snow.
Sam's Mum's House, Living room, Bedroom and Bathroom
My mothers house is located in Sugar Way, it is a four bed detatched house, which we believe is perfect accomodation for our con-man. The house is large and considering the con-man is only 29, this could have connotations of wealth due to the age of the character. For the film opening, we need to film outside the house, the living room, bedroom and bathroom. All of these rooms are modern decorated and look wealthy which is a code and convention of a con-man.
Hampton Fountains
As our con-man walks home, we would like him to walk past the fountain in hampton. This would have conotations of freedom. At the fountains, located in hampton, there is a long path alongside the water which would be ideal for our tracking shot idea, which shows the fountain in the background.
The Swiss Cottage
Props
For our film opening Adelle and myself have decided to use props which occured within our identified codes and conventions, these would reflect wealth and freedom.
Mobile Phone
Within one of the scenes, a mobile phone rings belonging to the main character. This phone needs to be one of the top in the market at the moment to show that the character is fashionable and wealthy. Posssible phones to use are: Iphone 3, Iphone 4 and a Blackberry Bold.
House Phone
At the house, we need a house phone that displays a voice message. The house phone at my mums house does dispay when a message is waiting. The phone is black, tall and thin and fits nicely into the surrounding interior of the house.
Apple Juice and Whisky Glass
Within the Swiss Cottage the two characters exchange dialogue, during this scene the two of them drink Apple Juice from Whisky glasses. This has connotations of wealth as stereotypically older, wealthy men drink Whisky. We cannot drink Whisky as the actors are only 17, so we are using Apple Juice as a substitute because their appearances are similar.
Paintball Marker
As the character walks away from the prison gates, we will have another charcter in the background, a Prison Guard. The Prison guard will be holding an assault rifle. As it is illegal to purchase/own a real assault rifle, the closest we can get is a paintball marker. The paintball marker is a 'Tippman Bravo One Tactical' and looks very similar to an M4 Carbine, which is a very common british assault rifle.
Ring
A very key prop within the two minute film opening is the wedding ring, the main character's wife has left him and the ring indicates his past. We will use my mum's wedding ring for theis scene.
Picture Frame
During the scene when the main character gets home, there is a picture frame on the side which has a photo of myself and Adelle in it and we are smiling and happy together. This represents the time before he went to prison and his wife was happy with him.
Letter and Envelope
Next to the Picture frame there is a letter within an envelope, this letter is hand written. The letter is used to explain why the wedding ring is in the envelope also. The letter is adressed to 'Michael'.
Watch
The main character, being a wealthy man, has an expensive silver watch
Bar Stools
Within the bar, the two charcters within the scene sit on bar stools at the bar. The bar stools are belonging to the pub and therefore match the surrounding interior.
After our Storyboards changed:
Iced tea (instead of apple juice)
Adelle and myself used iced tea instead of apple juice as that was what was available at the local shop, the colour of the liquid was similar to that of apple juice so it worked effectively to give the impression of Whiskey.
Razor
During our film opening we used a razor for a scene where Michael has a shave, this clearly represents the tidying up of his appearance and therefore a convention of a crime film.
Costumes
Danny McCardy costume (Daniel Knight)
Danny McCardy's costume consists of a plain Black Suit acompanied by Black Shoes, Black Tie and a White Shirt. This shows he is a smart and wealthy man, the colours could also suggest that he has a secretive or dark side to his personality. Danny's hair will be straightened and styled in a smart yet 'Raw' way to give him conotations of being smart yet fashionable.
Michael Domino's costume 1 (Sam Nixon)
Michael Domino's costume consists of a Grey Suit acompanied by a purple tie, the colour purple gives conotations of royalty and wealth which reflects the characters occupation of being a con-man. There will also be
Sam costume 1 - grey suit, purple tie, black shoes, white shirt
Sam costume 2 - black suit, black tie, black shoes, white shirt
Make-Up
After close analysis to 'Stars' from films and TV such as; Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Jason Statham and Nick Moran. We realised that these characters had no blemishes, tired marks or dark circles.
Therefore we decided to use make-up on our actors to give the same effect.
