After analysing the results from the questionnaire, Adelle and myself decided that we needed to find out WHY the target audience liked to watch the Crime based genre. We knew who the target audience was, we needed to find out, what it was that attracted them and why. Also we wanted to find out if there was anything missing that could be added in the future to give a new turn on the genre.
Our target audience, as identified within our primary research was 26-34 year old's, with this information our focus group consisted of socio economic groups C2, C1 and B.
We asked 7 people questions a recorded their answers, the results are logged on a table below, and the actual interview is presented below too.
The orange highlighted sections indicate the answers given multiple times by our candidates. From this Adelle and myself established that the majority of people enjoyed social activities such as; going out for a meal, meeting friends, shopping etc. The main aspects that attract our candidates were; escapism, an engaging plot, challenging narrative and a twist. Aspects expected to be within a crime based genre film were; escapism, cleverness, fast paced and film noir. Future aspects which our candidates desired were; for the main character to be female. This would be a convention challenged and perhaps the risky step of changing the main characters gender to a female role would intrigue the audience. From this we also extracted the fact that the candidates identifies some of the codes and conventions of the genre; a team, unknown, plot, loveable rogue.
Geraint
Geraint is a teacher, this means his socio-economic group would be C2.
Sophie
Sophie is a manager for the NHS and therefore would have a socio-economic group of B.
Tom
Tom is a Bank Manager and therefore lies within the B socio-economic group.
Zoe
Zoe is a courier and therefore her socio-economic group would be D.
Martin
Martin is a pub manager and therefore is in the C2 Socio-economic group.
Katie
Katie is a Beauty Therapist, this would place her within the C2 socio-economic group.
Louise
Louise is a Librarian and therefore falls within the C1 Socio-economic group.
